#WeAreArity Wednesday: Emily Selgrat
When my friend asks me what it is that I do again, I say…
Whatever needs to be done! 🙂 Joking aside, I usually respond with, “At Arity, I help drive awareness of and interest in our brand and our products through the creation of various marketing campaigns.”
In your own words, what is Arity?
Arity is a group of brilliant people. Together, we are developing software and technologies that surface data and insights about how and where people move so that we can make it safer and easier to get around.
What is your work from home set up like?
This might be odd, but I don’t have a designated spot. I actually really like being mobile with my laptop. Additionally, I have three kids (ages 8, 6, and 1 ½ years old). So, there are times I work alongside them but if I’m on a call or focused on a deadline, I’ll find a quiet* spot either in my room or in the basement. Overall, I have become quite skilled in tuning out noise while working.
We all commuted into the office prior to COVID, how are you spending the extra time?
Most days I spend it gazing longingly out the window, thinking of ways to fill my time…. Scratch that, see question above. With three kids in quarantine, it’s more like: work, breakfast, dishes, snacks, e-learning, lunch, work, more snacks, dinner, clean-up, family walk, baths, place Instacart order for more snacks, get kids to bed, work, sleep. Rinse and repeat. Every. Single. Day. (This is where I raise a glass to all the working parents out there!)
Most people don’t know I…
I am actually a big fan of both Dolly Parton and Elvis Presley. (Thanks Mom).
The theme song of my life is…
“Come Together” – Aerosmith version
Would you get in a self-driving car? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I would love to say that I was one of the first to experience the future of driving – plus, I’d get a little mental break while doing so.
Favorite innovation pioneer?
My son Timmy. I am often in awe of the way he thinks through problems and finds creative solutions. There is always a new idea brewing in his head and he’s constantly working on some sort of project or experiment. I have no doubt he will be a future pioneer!
