#WeAreArity Wednesday: Vicki Hardy
When Mom asks me what it is that I do again, I say…
At Arity, I am an iOS developer for our app called Route Report. Using the sensors on a user’s mobile phone, our app analyzes driving behavior to help make the roads a safer place. We detect events like speeding, hard braking, and phone handling to return a risk assessment for each individual user in the form of a personalized score.
In your own words, what is Arity?
Arity is an amazing and innovative tech company that is set on making transportation smarter and safer for everyone. By analyzing billions of miles of driving data, Arity can help businesses make smarter decisions. I love that Arity also empowers their employees to come up with their own ideas and solutions to problems. At Arity, everyone is given a voice.
My favorite mode of transportation is…
My feet. Where possible I prefer to walk over driving or getting the train. It saves money, it’s good for my health, and also helps the environment!
On a Saturday afternoon, you can find me…
Playing volleyball, going on hikes, catching up with friends, visiting my grandparents, hanging out with my Mum, or chilling with my husband and two cats, Mylo and Theo.
If you could volunteer for any cause, what would it be? Why?
I would like to get involved with an organization like Greenpeace to help with any cause that has to do with animals and the environment. Combating climate change, riding the oceans of plastic and pollution, protecting forests, etc. Environmental issues are something that mean a lot to me. Whether it’s someone dropping some litter on the street or serious issues like Fracking and deforestation, I think it’s important to raise awareness so people understand the effect we’re having on both our species and the planet as a whole. We need to put actions in place now to stop the extinction of animals and the deterioration of the planet so future generations can enjoy our World as we do.
Most people don’t know I…
Play beach volleyball for Northern Ireland. This might seem surprising as I’m only 5ft 4, but I’ve been playing both indoor and beach volleyball since I was 15 and love the sport.
The theme song of my life is…
Talk to your rideshare driver or silent ride?
Talk. I don’t really enjoy awkward silences. It’s amazing the stories you often hear when you start up a conversation with a stranger.
Would you get in a self-driving car? Why or why not?
Yes! Self-driving technology fascinates me and I think I’d rather take the risk than miss out on the experience.
Favorite innovation pioneer?
Sherman Poppen for his creation of the ‘snurfer’, which ultimately led to today’s snowboard. One of the greatest inventions there is. Someday I’d love to live in a country where I can snowboard every winter from my doorstep.
