#WeAreArity Wednesday: Adam Deehan

In our #WeAreArity Wednesday series, we shine a spotlight on Arity employees. Meet Adam Deehan from our Engineering team in Northern Ireland.

What bucket list item do you want to check off in the next six months?

To travel more and visit Egypt to see the pyramids.

What other activities are you looking forward to in Egypt?

Exploring the country and the culture. I used to travel quite a bit before COVID, so I’m hoping to get back into that going forward as things start to come back to some sort of normality. Any opportunity to get into an airplane, and I’m there.

Are you more productive in the morning or at night?

I’m more productive at night. I’m really not a morning person. I go to the gym quite late at night and do a lot of little activities like that that can sometimes get in the way of work, so I like to use that time as much as possible.

If you could live in any country, which country would you pick?

A couple years ago, I went to visit Vietnam for a few weeks, and it’s just such a lovely place to live in terms of how they live, the food, and the culture. It’s somewhere I’d really love to live if I ever got the opportunity. The food is unbelievable. I’m a big foodie, and Vietnam fulfills that part of me!

Imagine you no longer have to work. How would you spend a Tuesday?

I would spend more time hiking and camping in the wild.

Do you have a favorite place to hike?

There is a mountain range here in Northern Ireland called the Mourne Mountains. It’s like something out of Game of Thrones. It’s next level. It’s a nice place to go just to get away for a few hours. We’re definitely spoiled here in Northern Ireland in terms of the picturesque locations that we have. There’s just so much to see and so much to do.

What do your family and friends think you do all day at work?

My family and friends think I spend my day turning computers off and on, hoping that they work.

How do you simply explain what you do at work to your family and friends?

I genuinely always struggle with this. It always comes down to “I work with computers.” Less is more, I find. When you start to explain it to them, it gets very confusing for those who aren’t so tech-savvy.

What is a current trend that you just don’t understand?

TikTok. I just don’t understand the appeal, but maybe that’s just me. I’ve come around the corner, and I’ve seen people just dancing. I was just really baffled, and it turns out they were making a TikTok. It’s really alien to me.

What is a good way to give back to the community?

Donating to the local food banks whenever you get the opportunity or when you have the means to do so.

What do you do in your free time to help you relax?

I go for hikes to detach and pretend I know nothing about computers for a few hours. If I’m ever stressed or feeling burnt out, I’ll go up in the mountains for a few hours. It’s nice to get away and not have phone signal for a bit.
