#WeAreArity: Jonathan Leighton
When Mom asks me what it is that I do again, I say…
At Arity, I build software to ingest and analyze driving data from the devices in people’s cars, and the name of my team is “Suitcase”. Although if you asked my mom what I do, she would tell you that I “work on a system that tracks suitcases”.
In your own words, what is Arity?
Arity develops tools to provide insight into the personal use of transportation. We aim to make transport safer, smarter and more useful for everyone.
My favorite mode of transportation is…
Aeroplane, because it usually means I’m going somewhere exciting! For the day to day stuff, I use a mix of public transport, bike and car.
On a Saturday afternoon, you can find me…
Building, fixing, or breaking things with my dad, watching Formula 1 or MotoGP qualifying, or just hanging out with family and friends.
If you could volunteer for any cause, what would it be? Why?
I would volunteer for something in education – allowing all kids access to a decent education should be at the top of the list.
Most people don’t know I…
Can play guitar, rebuild an engine or that I used to work in a cocktail bar.
The theme song of my life is…
Paul Simon – Call Me Al
Talk to your rideshare driver or silent ride?
I would talk to my rideshare driver! But honestly, in Belfast the option usually isn’t on the table.
Would you get in a self-driving car? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I can’t wait to read a book in the car! But I do still want the option to drive myself, just for kicks.
Favorite innovation pioneer?
Richard Feynman. If you want to get excited about the world, watch Feynman talking about it.
